Bondage Fruit - Récit

For my second real post, I'd like to present the excellent Japanese group Bondage Fruit. They play a sort of avant-garde/Zeuhl type of music, led by Natsuki Kido's fiery guitar playing and Yuji Katsui's fluid violin lines. This is the title track from their third album, Récit, uploaded to Youtube by some awesome poster with rights to post videos longer than 10 minutes. We get the full 28 minutes in one piece!

A quick post before I'm away to bed

Might as well get at least one video/short ramble on here before I accidentally forget about the blog again...starting can be difficult, though. That's why I'm not quite sure where to start. How about this one; the first song I heard from one of my now-favorite bands, Cardiacs. I heard this song (Fiery Gun Hand) back when I first started this blog, maybe even a few months earlier. At the time, it was little more than a "good" song...little did I know it would turn me into a devoted follower of everything Tim Smith/Cardiacs-related. They're hard to describe musically, and hearing a track from one album will not prepare you for all of their albums. The album this is from, Sing to God, is one of the band's masterpieces. As Tim would say, the music within is "pop" or "psychedelic" - I'll leave it up to you to decide just how you want to categorize it. I'll honour Tim's wishes and call it pop. All of the band's albums are currently OOP, but available on iTunes.

Speaking of Tim - he suffered from a stroke in 2008 from which he's still not recovered yet. Recently (in December actually) a tribute album, Leader of the Starry Skies was released, and it features tracks from 17 artists paying tribute to Tim and his music, along with a second, limited edition disc A Loyal Companion, which contains another 14 tracks. I encourage you to check them out if you find yourself enjoying Tim's music.

Here's the first disc's page over at genepool.

Happy listening!

We meet again for the first time for the last time...

So I may have said that the next post on here was going to be within a week of the initial post. That may not be true, since it's been a few years since that post. I'm back though, at least for a little while, and now I finally have two posts! The purpose of the blog is changed slightly now, by the way - rather than reviewing albums (I'll link to my ProgArchives reviews instead) I'm just going to post videos/ramble on about various groups I enjoy. No promises on how often I'll post anything, but I'm going to try to keep it semi-constant.

Mad? Me?

I've been into a fairly wide/eclectic range of music for a fairly long time now, and (assuming my schedule allows) I'm planning on adding yet another review to many albums I enjoy, probably one to two per week. How long I'll manage to keep it up before deciding I either can't describe what I'm trying to say or run out of time/music to review, no one knows.

Expect the first review within the week.
